Kindergarten and school

As a general principle, all children in Germany must attend a school. This means that you also have to register your children in a school. Before school, children attend a kindergarten. For children, this is also the best way to learn the new language and make new friends quickly.

General information on the German school system (compulsory schooling, duration, types of school and much more) can be found on the Goethe-Institut website. The site is available in a total of 24 different languages, among others:  German, Spanish, Persian, Portuguese, French, Russian, Tigrinya, Turkish, Arabic and Serbian.

This page also answers frequently asked questions about attending school and kindergarten.
